I would like to discuss ideas anyone has on how governments in general, whether federal/provincial/municipal/etc, can gradually transition away from main sources of government revenue such as income/property tax.
Things like repealing ineffective laws and specific budget cuts help, but since income/property tax is such a large source of revenue - we really have to get accurate numbers to calculate the expected outcomes of actions we suggest.
I'll start by suggesting that new revenue streams and specific budget cuts be used to slowly transition away from income/property taxes.
Also, something in the Charter/Constitution stating no new taxes not tax increases will force governments to really look to new revenue sources and effective budget cuts.
I think it can be done gradually, is definitely not impossible - where there's a will there's a way!
