Courteousness
To encourage intellectual discourse it is suggested that flaming, trolling, and mean-spirited insults be checked at the door. The idea of this forum is to encourage the free-flow of ideas in a threatening environment. If you have come here to be hostile and do not offer anything to the community, you will likely not last long here.
Right-wingers
If you come from a right-wing perspective, please note that it is very possible that you may have a certain degree of misunderstanding about the left, and unfortunately likely come here with many prejudices. It is encouraged that you have a good understanding of the subject--especially if you wish to present counter arguments. It is not often said, but right-wingers often come to leftist forums to troll and grief other members. Don't be like those people, because you will not last long here. We welcome everyone here and encourage even lively debate about topics. Counter arguments are welcomed, as they strengthen our own arguments. If you do not know something, post on the Learning board and ask a question. If you have a misunderstanding about some aspect of left-wing thought, you will likely be directed there.
Fascists
If you are a fascist, you may have a bit to fear here, but it is tolerated. If you have some information to present do so, but as a left-wing board we aren't welcoming to fascists. Do not expect to be coddled. Presenting an extremely prejudiced and distorted view of the past such as holocaust denial or white supremacy will most likely get you banned. While we value freedom of speech, we also value historical materialism and academic integrity. There are no legitimate historians or scientists that make the case for any of these views. Our unwelcoming attitude towards fascists might seem prejudiced, but it is our view that prejudice against prejudiced views is not itself prejudice.
Constitution
It is important for power to have legitimacy. Part of that legitimacy is transparency. On this forum, voting is implemented for the removal of threads banning of users. This can of course change. But we wish to encourage democracy even on these forums. One of the problems of the Internet however, is anonymity. Because of this, democracy on these forums might be more limited than the management desires. Stay tuned, and stay involved.
